I caught up with Dr Andrew Ordon and Dr Ritu Chopra from the US daytime show The Doctors yesterday at Dubai's Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel, just hours into their nine-day visit to scope out the emirate for a regular visiting practice. They gave us as well as recommendations for safe plastic surgery and some of the best non-invasive procedures on the market. For those considering plastic surgery: *"Make sure you're doing it for the right reasons, doing it for yourself and to feel better about yourself," says Ordon *Skip deals and lower prices and choose the right person for the job. "Make sure they are credentialled in the appropriate manner, make sure they do the procedure, make sure you can see before and after pictures and/or talk to patients, lots of people are doing procedures they are not qualified to do and that can get you into trouble," says Chopra. *"It is real surgery, getting operative procedures so you need to know that going into it, that there's recovery and there may be a certain degree of discomfort associated with it," says Ordon *"Have realistic expectations," said Chopra. "Someone coming in, 'I want Angelina Jolie's nose', they can't get it because of their face, you know? Make sure they are realistic in what they are choosing." *Another big thing is that they are healthy," says Chopra. "A lot of times we're doing an aesthetic surgery but more importantly their health: Make sure before they are getting their consult that their diabetes is under control, their hypertension is under control, their weight is under control - all those will affect the way they heal." ... and for those who are not Because of their high profile both in the US and internationally, Ordon and Chopra have been offered some of the most cutting-edge non-invasive technologies to test in their two California clinics. There are three treatments they recommend as safe and effective, provided they are offered by licensed personnel: *the C02 fractionated laser skin resurfacing to improve skin texture, fine lines and discolouration *radio-frequency, or thermage, a painless procedure that boosts collagen and tightens and contours skin on both the face and body *a microwave technique to stop excessive sweating in armpits
