Back in the 1980s, if you liked your dungeons and dragons and had a computer, chances are you knew of Ultima. This vast sword and sandals RPG series set the standard for pretty much all that was to follow, and now its original creator is looking to return to his award-winning roots.

Richard Garriot (who also goes by the name of Lord English as a character in his games) has launched a Kickstarter campaign in which he wants to raise US$1 million (Dh3.67m) for a new project called Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues.

According to the description, the game will focus “more on player choices and discovery than on level grinding”. At the last count, it had already raised more than $700,000.
