The debut shoe range from reality TV stars Kylie and Kendall Jenner has gone on sale in the UAE. Branded as Kendall + Kylie, the range marks the pair’s first foray into the fashion world, with a contemporary collection which is described as “a combination of Kendall’s sophisticated style and Kylie’s eclectic originality”. The range is available to order now from www.levelshoedistrict.com. “This collection is really important to us because it’s a reflection of our point of view in the fashion world today,” said the pair, in a statement on the store’s website. The range features both angular heels for the “on duty socialite” and more understated sandals for “off-duty model street style”. – The National Staff

Priyanka Chopra to appear on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show

Continuing her traverse in the avenues of Hollywood, Priyanka Chopra will now add a desi twist to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The actress will appear in the popular international TV show on March 3. She is said to be the first Hindi star to be hosted by Fallon, who has interviewed celebrities like Martin Scorcese, Ben Stiller, Penelope Cruz, Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Lopez, among others. The show appears in India on Comedy Central. Priyanka did not make the announcement of her appearance on the show directly, but confirmed the news by retweeting a post by a Twitter fan page. “Catch Priyanka Chopra...March 3rd - Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...March 4th - Live! with Kelly & Michael,” read the post. Another post read: “Priyanka Chopra to make her first appearance on @FallonTonight on March 3. @jimmyfallon”. Priyanka has already appeared on another famous talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. As of now, she is excited about making her Hollywood film debut with “Baywatch” and is also looking forward to the new season of her American TV show “Quantico” as well as the release of her next Bollywood film “Jai Gangaajal”. Priyanka will also be seen presenting Oscar at the 88th Academy Awards on February 28. – IANS

French film awards honour diversity

France’s top film awards ceremony, the Cesars, celebrated diversity with honours for films about the struggles of life as an immigrant and forced marriage. The creme de la creme of French showbiz gathered in Paris on Friday (February 26) for the 41st Cesars, just two days ahead of its Hollywood equivalent, the Oscars, which have been panned as “too white”. Mustang, which is up for a foreign film Oscar on Sunday, scooped three awards including for best first feature film. The film by Franco-Turkish director Deniz Gamze Erguven – and was screened by Dubai’s The Scene Club in January – tells the story of five sisters in rural Turkey forced into arranged marriages. The best picture accolade went to Fatima, a movie about an immigrant Moroccan woman struggling to raise her two teenagers in France and working as a cleaning lady to give them the best life possible. The leading role was played by Algerian Soria Zeroual, a real-life cleaning lady who found herself nominated for best actress alongside French cinema greats Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve. Michael Douglas became the latest Hollywood star to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Cesars, and delivered his acceptance speech entirely in French. “It is a little like French cuisine, to make a great dish you need excellent ingredients. To make a great film you need a brilliant screenplay, a great director and exceptional actors,” said Douglas. “I have nearly always had the chance to count on these good ingredients.” – AFP

Quincy Jones lawsuit over Jackson songs can go to trial

A judge ruled Thursday that a lawsuit filed by producer Quincy Jones against Michael Jackson’s estate and record company over royalties on some of the singer’s biggest hits can go to trial. Superior Court Judge Michael Stern said a jury should decide the numerous factual disputes about whether the hit-making producer is owed any money.

Jones sued the estate and Sony Music Entertainment in 2013, seeking at least $10 million [Dh3.67 million]. He contends the defendants re-edited songs for the This Is It film and a pair of Cirque du Soleil shows to deprive him of royalties and production fees. Jones is also seeking a credit on the film that was done by using Jackson’s final rehearsals for a planned series of comeback concerts in London.

The producer worked with Jackson on three of his most popular solo albums, Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad. Jackson’s estate and Sony Music have denied wrongdoing and sought dismissal of the case.– AP

Stallone leads tributes to Rocky actor Tony Burton

Tony Burton, who drew on his career as a prizefighter to play boxing trainer Tony “Duke” Evers in all six Rocky films, died on Thursday (February 25) aged 78. Sylvester Stallone, who stars in the franchise, led the tributes after relatives announced Burton’s death in a southern California hospital from suspected pneumonia following a long illness. Burton, who had been living in California for 30 years, played the trainer of Apollo Creed, the antagonist of the first two Rocky films, before switching to Rocky’s corner in the subsequent movies. “Tony Burton who played the character of Duke brilliantly in all six Rocky movies... Rest in peace,” Stallone said on the Instagram photo-sharing site, posting a still from Rocky IV of the pair with Apollo Creed actor Carl Weathers. “Sad news. RIP Tony Burton. His intensity and talent helped make the Rocky movies successful,” Weathers tweeted. Burton’s younger sister Loretta “Peaches” Kelley told MLive, a news portal based in his native Michigan, that Burton had been in and out of the hospital over a year. His ill health prevented him from appearing in Rocky spin-off Creed, for which Stallone earned an Oscar nomination, but the character was briefly present. – AFP
