Kristina Fidelskaya serves up flirty femme at FFWD Dubai

Her collection for spring/summer 2017 shown on Day 1 of Fashion Forward included plenty of white, alongside muted hues of pistachio green. Romantic and alluring, designs were form fitting, with an easy A-line flare here and there.

If you haven’t heard the name Kristina Fidelskaya yet, it’s a label you’re likely to hear a lot about in the upcoming months — for one, she’s putting on an exclusive show at Sensation Dubai, the big dance event that will take place in November at the Bab Al Shams Arena.

Time and again, white is key in Fidelskaya’s colour palette — but not at all in a bad way.

Her collection for spring/summer 2017 shown on day one of Fashion Forward included plenty of it, alongside muted hues of pistachio green. Romantic and alluring, designs were form fitting, with an easy A-line flare here and there.

The pieces easily embodied romantic allure, especially in the form of the slip dress — a style trend that has been a significant even in the current autumn/winter season. Supple, almost seductive dresses with deep-V necks were decorated with scalloped lace at the necklines and hems. In one instance, the dress was paired with a white trench coat, and the effect was gorgeous. Other designs, like a halter-neck tailored jumpsuit, evoked power and confidence alongside femininity. Some pieces even featured subtle references to Madonna’s iconic cone-bra, featuring outlined cups at the bust — but tone on tone, so that it wasn’t obvious at first glance.

A few designs were on the provocative side, but not in a blatantly vulgar way. Skirts featured zippers that zipped both ways some dresses had buckle references, and one outfit was especially sultry, comprising a sheer pink blouse and rather short pair of shorts. Towards the end of the show, there were some evident attempts at drama, in the form of a gold maxi, gold bell-bottoms and a slinky gold dress. Overall, clothing appeared to be cut and fit for slender, skinny women, and looked difficult to adapt to curvier body shapes — especially given the clingy, unforgiving satins and silks used for the dresses.

Shape and size aside, if there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that you can definitely count on Fidelskaya to produce a pretty white dress — or jumpsuit, for that matter.
