Kris Fade and Burj Khalifa take starring roles in new RedOne video

The Burj Khalifa takes a starring role in the video to RedOne’s debut single Don’t You Need Somebody.

The Middle East and some of its most famous residents have taken a starring role in the video to pop producer RedOne's debut single, Don't You Need Somebody.

Dubai Radio DJ Kris Fade, Saudi singing starlet Aseel Omran and Indian film icon Priyanka Chopra are among the familiar faces featured prominently in the new clip, virtually rubbing shoulders with international A-listers including Jennifer Lopez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Nadal and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The video cuts together clips of celebs from across the globe lip-synching to the feel-good track — which features vocals from an all-star cast of Enrique Iglesias, Serayah, R City and Shaggy — all clearly eager to help out with the Lady Gaga producer’s first solo statement.

The Burj Khalifa also gets several cameos in the official music video, which has clocked close to 11 million views since being posted on RedOne’s YouTube account on June 9.

However a recut version for the Arab world, released by MBC’s Platinum Records on July 27, features copious views of the emirates, including the scenes shot in the Virgin Radio studio starring Fade and his co-hosts.

Aseel provides a touching additional Arabic language verse, and is featured extensively on and around Palm Jumeirah.

Other familiar sights to crop include clips filmed inside The Dubai Mall and walking underneath the Dubai Aquarium.

Elsewhere, the regional remake includes celebrity clips from around the region, with the cameras dropping in on Beirut, Cairo, Jeddah, Marrakech, Tétouan and Ramallah, interspersed with views from France, Spain, USA and Sweden — where RedOne is filmed in the studio.

Born Nadir Al-Khayat in Morocco, in 1991 a 19-year-old RedOne emigrated to Sweden to begin a career in music. It was some 17 years later that he found mainstream success, after moving to the USA and producing many of Lady Gaga's biggest hits, including 2008's Poker Face and Just Dance.

Now aged 44, the super producer has gone on to work with reams of stars, including Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, One Direction and Nicki Minaj.

Last year, RedOne announced plans to pursue a solo career, as well as hinting at plans to relocate his work to Dubai, in an exclusive interview with The National.

Don't You Need Somebody marks the first step to realising this dream, and given his credentials, it is only natural he called on a few famous friends to help make it happen.

“I wanted to just start with something organic, with my friends,” RedOne told People website.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was the first one to send a video back. Then Ryan Seacrest was like, ‘I’m in!’. One led to the other — it’s just a blessing to have all these friends do this for me.

“Everybody told me ‘this is a happy song, it makes you feel good — I wanna be part of it.’ It happened organically.”
