Jimmy Fallon honoured by Harvard Lampoon

Jimmy Fallon got the royal treatment at Harvard. The Tonight Show host and Saturday Night Live alum was honoured on Saturday by the Harvard Lampoon, the United States' oldest continuously published humour magazine. The magazine awarded Fallon its Elmer Award for Excellence in Humour The comedian was crowned "Emperor of Comedy" and paraded through Harvard Square in a Roman chariot. The parade started by the Inn at Harvard and ended at the steps of the magazine's headquarters, Lampoon Castle, where he was presented with a trophy and an 85-cent check. It's just the seventh time the undergraduate organisation says it has bestowed the honour. Previous recipients include Jay Leno, John Cleese and Robin Williams. The 41-year-old Fallon took over The Tonight Show from Leno last year. – AP

Omung Kumar will start shooting Sarabjit film in next month

Director Omung Kumar says that he will start shooting his terrorist biopic Sarabjit on November 25. The film is based on Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death. He was attacked by inmates at a prison in Lahore in April 2013 and died a few days later. Kumar has been spotted researching at Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur's house in Patiala. He also visited the Wagah border and the small villages near the border along with his team. The film features actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will be seen playing the role of Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur. The title role will be played by Randeep Hooda. – IANS

Cumberbatch and Sherlock to return for 4th season

There will be more mysteries to solve for the sleuth of Baker Street. The UK's BBC confirmed Saturday that filming on a fourth series of the hit detective drama Sherlock will start in next spring. The modern-day update of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective stories stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as his stalwart companion, Dr Watson. Since Sherlock was first broadcast in 2010, Cumberbatch has become a global star, Academy Award-nominated for The Imitation Game. Freeman has starred in The Hobbit movie saga and in TV's Fargo. – AP

Maureen O’Hara, spirited movie star, dies at 95

Actress Maureen O'Hara, the Irish talent who appeared in such classic films as The Quiet Man and How Green Was My Valley, has died. Her manager, Johnny Nicoletti, says O'Hara died in her sleep on Saturday, October 24 at her home in Boise, Idaho. She was 95. O'Hara came to Hollywood to star in 1939's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and went on to have a long career. How Green Was My Valley, a touching 1941 drama about a Welsh mining family, won five Oscars including best picture. She became John Wayne's favourite leading lady, appearing with him in The Quiet Man and other films. And she was little Natalie Wood's mother in the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street. She's survived by a daughter in Ireland. – AP

1D’s Tomlinson and Simon Cowell planning to form girl band

Music mogul Simon Cowell and One Direction member Louis Tomlinson are trying to put a girl band together. Tomlinson revealed during an interview with The X Factor's YouTube channel that he's working closely with Cowell on a new music label. He's working with Cowell to help put together a new girl group, reports eonline.com. "I've got a little label in print so I'm trying to work with that at the moment. I'm lucky enough to be working with Simon. We've got a few different projects going on at the moment one of which is we're trying to put a girl band together," Tomlinson shared. "It's really exciting to be involved in the different side of it, the background." – IANS
