Jada Pinkett Smith may have had some crazy fun celebrating the New Year in Dubai with her husband Will Smith and their famous friends, but as she wrote on her Facebook page early today, 2013 was not an easy year. Tyrese and the rest of his Fast&Furious cast members are still mourning the sudden death of actor and co-star Paul Walker in November. And after celebrating Tuesday night, the Smiths woke up to news that across the world Will's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star James Avery (Uncle Phil) had died after having heart surgery.
Pinkett Smith wrote about the loss of Avery in her post, adding: "This New Year's Eve, I celebrated my 16th wedding anniversary in Dubai. Those 16 years meant a hell of a lot considering I was not allowed to forget how short life truly is."
If social media is an indication, the celebs had a blast. On New Year's Eve Smith thrilled the crowd at Barasti's sold-out Sugar Beach party by taking the stage with his old partner DJ Jazzy Jeff. (Jazzy wished the Smiths a happy anniversary when he posted a short video on his Instagram account) They also hung out with the singer-songwriter Maxwell, who performed at The Act Dubai on New Year's Eve, and Fast & Furious 7 actor and singer Tyrese Gibson.
Check out Gibson's Instagram page for fun pics of their antics, including a shot of himself with Smith and Maxwell wearing ghutras and smoking cigars, and video of everyone singing happy birthday to Tyrese, who turned 35 on Monday.
Pinkett Smith thanked Tyrese, Maxwell "and all our friends in Dubai for creating such an exuberant celebration for our anniversary".
She also made a recommendation: "I hope the world at some point will be able to experience the joy of witnessing Tyrese and Maxwell singing together, because it is not a game ;)"
Those last words surely have extra meaning, so stay tuned, because Tyrese wrote "#2014 is not a game" in a picture he posted of himself with Maxwell at the foot of the Burj Khalifa.
