An almost unreal image of a tree sprouting from a wall; a picture of a dog lying on a mattress on the street; and a surreal photo of air conditioning units. These are just some of the striking images that are part of an exhibition in Turkey looking at the human impact on the physical environment.

Work from 13 artists is on display, including photographs from Kerem Ozan Bayraktar, Kursat Bayhan and Barbaros Kayan. The work of Bayhan, for example, looks at the tough lives of economic immigrant workers in Turkey; while Kayan’s photographs from her “Ayazma project” looks at a related subject – the destruction of migrant homes in Istanbul as property prices rise. Other themes explored include nature and the city; life in prison; and abandoned or unfinished housing estates.

Habitat runs at the Istanbul Modern in Turkey until May 22. For more information visit www.istanbulmodern.org
