• Daya’s Thursday night set showed why she is viewed as one of pop music’s bright new hopes. Dressed in denim a jacket and mesh top, Daya’s grungy look was apt, as she is essentially a rock singer performing pop songs. It kind of works; there are enough cracks and lack of polish to her voice to keeps the sunny hit, Hideaway, and the perky Cool from being too saccharine. Satish Kumar / The National

  • Sean Paul hung in with the crowd on a rainy Thursday night and performed most of his set soaked at the tip of the T-stage. A seasoned pro, the 44-year-old dance-hall star kept the crowd moving with a highly energised performance packed with nearly two decades worth of hits. Satish Kumar / The National

  • Donned in a leather jacket, black jeans and with his hair slicked back, the G-Eazy looked like a lanky version of The Fonze on Thursday as he barrelled through a boisterous yet introspective set that included the bouncy You Got Me and the claustrophobic I Mean It. Satish Kumar / The National

  • Calumn Scott was slick and polished on Saturday. Sure, some of the tunes edged dangerously close to hotel lobby territory, but he had enough grit in his voice to keep us engaged. Courtesy RedFestDXB

  • Tove Lo delivered a welcome slice of attitude on Saturday. Perhaps, the “coolest” artist at the festival, her set oozed tight, Swedish concision. Her three-piece band, two drummers and keyboardist, conjured up her dark and claustrophobic sounds to broody perfection. Courtesy RedFestDXB

  • Mike Posner delivered a solid sunset show on Saturday. The timing was apt, with the 28-year-old’s mellow voice comforting as the darkness descended. Thankfully, there was enough musical muscle in his backing band, which included guitar, keyboards and saxophone, to ensure the set did not become a snooze-inducing affair. Although, all that new-age sermonising she was sprouting off during the show began to grate. Courtesy RedFestDXB

  • Demi Lovato’s voice is not a subtle instrument – her slightly nasal and helium-filled vocals can thrill, such as in the dramatic Heart Attack and the brilliant pop of Cool for the Summer, or bludgeon, as was the case in the overwrought Kingdom Come. That said, her festival closing set on Saturday was bright, colourful and slightly brash. Satish Kumar / The National

The fourth edition of RedfestDxb was successful, if slightly chaotic. The turbulent weekend weather that wreaked havoc across the country forced organisers to push back the festival’s second and last day from Friday to Saturday. Over 15,000 people braved the elements on both nights to check out nearly a dozen stars perform varied sets ranging from pop, rock and R&B. Here are some of the highlights.
