Hot property: The Sanctuary, Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos, Caribbean

This private island retreat belongs to the fashion designer Donna Karan and is part of the Parrot Cay resort. Originally built in 1988 by a Kuwaiti family and then taken over by the Como Group hotelier Christina Ong in 1998, the resort also includes the five-bedroom Residence and the Rocky Point Villas.
The Sanctuary covers 10 acres, but Karan plans to hold on to one of the four villas, two swimming pools and the spa area. That leaves seven acres - including a two-storey yoga pavilion and beach-side master swimming pool - up for grabs for US$39 million (Dh143m).
It's designed by the architect Cheong Yew Kuan, who has worked on resorts for the Four Seasons, Alila and Como groups as well as a residence for one of Abu Dhabi's sheikhs. The estate is on Turks & Caicos, a secluded island in the Caribbean -and yet still just a short flight away from both Manhattan and Miami.
The beachfront property, available through Christie's International Real Estate, comes fully furnished, and includes art and accessories that Karan has collected from all over the world, a dining pavilion for 20, a kitchen and staff quarters. Plus, of course, access to the main hotel's chefs, therapists and housekeeping facilities.
The new owners can set up home in two 3,500-square-foot villas, each with a second-floor master bedroom with 360° views and three guest rooms. The villas' interiors feature soothing cedar and coral walls, teak furniture and limestone accents. A third house is perfect for guests or to throw Gatsby-esque parties.
Karan has said that she's selling the property because it's "more space than I need, although I frequently vacation on the island". So you know who to include on your island-warming guest list.
