Here are some creative tips for getting your children’s rooms ready for a productive year.

Decluttering your child’s room is crucial. Get rid of anything that isn’t inspiring or of good learning value, plus whatever they have grown out of. There are many great charities that will collect unwanted items with a swift phone call.

Allocating spaces for separate activities will make a big difference. Create a corner or niche for homework and learning, positioned far from the bed. Start defining a study spot by using the colours that your child likes, and painting just this area. Try large triangles that start at the floor, create mountain peaks or maybe even a huge pink polka dot right behind the desk. Chalkboard paint is really fun around the study area, and can be applied in various colours, shapes and sizes to create an area for jotting down notes or drawing.

Add a soft rug to the floor to give them a place to spread out a project, gather with friends or just read. Be sure that your rug follows the colour scheme; again, it’s fun to let the children choose it.
