Home improvements: five-step project to making a glitter bowl

For those who are brave enough to step outside the proverbial home-decor box, why not try making a glitter bowl? Fun and easy, this five-step project will result in a great accent piece that’s unique. Best of all, you can get the kids involved.

You’ll need some thick glue, a mixing bowl, glitter (in a colour of your choice, but remember it needs to look right in the room you plan to place your bowl in), balloons, a pin and a brush.

The first step is to blow up the balloon. The size of the balloon will be an indication of the size of your bowl. Next, mix equal parts glue and glitter in the mixing bowl. Stir thoroughly.

Once stirred, apply the glittery glue onto the balloon. Pay attention to how far up the balloon you apply this mix, as it will dictate the shape and height of your bowl. Also keep in mind that you’ll need to remove the balloon at the end, so don’t go so high that this becomes impossible.

Leave the glue to dry for 24 hours. Once dry, take a pin and pop the balloon. The deflated balloon should easily peel off. Your glitter bowl is now ready for use.
