On the off-chance that anyone in the UAE actually cleans their own windows, here are some tips to help make one of life’s least enjoyable jobs that little bit more bearable.
First off, choose a time of day when the sun isn’t shining directly onto your windows, as the heat is likely to make your cleaning liquid dry too quickly, leaving streaks or water spots.
Start by wiping away dust or dirt from your windows, ledges, hinges and frames with a soft brush. This is important.
For cleaning fluid, you can use store-bought solutions or make your own natural ones by mixing one part vinegar with one part hot water.
Your best bet is to invest in a proper squeegee, but a good-sized sponge will also do the trick. Use vertical strokes when washing the outside of your windows and horizontal ones for the inside – or vice versa. This way you can tell which side has the streaks.
Some people use scrunched-up pieces of newspaper to dry their windows. This is a better option than paper towels (which are prone to disintegrating), but a good-quality microfibre cloth will serve you best.
