Hollywood women warm up at a pre-Oscar party

Oscar nominees Meryl Streep, Rosamund Pike and Laura Dern kicked off Hollywood's biggest weekend in style at the eighth annual Women in Film Pre-Oscar Cocktail Party. The atmosphere at Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails in Los Angeles was relaxed and celebratory on Friday night, with nominees from a wide array of categories, from actresses and directors, including Laura Poitras (Citizenfour), to producers and production designers. "We can't just stop at Kathryn Bigelow," said Peter Fonda, a longtime supporter of Women in Film. "There are so many more women who are writers, who are actors, who are producers and they should be able to stand just even with all the males. Hollywood's got a screwball way of doing it" – AP

Car-crash scare for Kardashians

A vehicle in which reality-TV stars Kim and Khloe Kardashian were travelling hit black ice and slid off a road in Montana into a ditch on Saturday. Montana Highway patrol captain Mark Wilfore says the accident happened before noon on a motorway between Bozeman and Belgrade. Neither of the sisters nor a third unidentified person in the vehicle, which was being driven by Khloe, were hurt. He said there was no damage to the vehicle, which was pulled from the ditch. Kim’s publicist said on Saturday that the sisters “are OK”. – AP

Electoral College Victory

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
