Gift the passion for reading by donating books at collection points at City Walk, The Beach and Boxpark, this Ramadan.
The retail locations operated by Meraas developers and UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) have initiated the drive to revive the art of reading among children in the Emirates.
The books that will be collected during this month will then be taken to schools for reading sessions organised by UAEBBY.
“We would like to dedicate the holy month to promote the culture of reading in the community,” says Saleh Al Geziry, the senior director of Retail Management at Meraas.
“The books will also be placed in public libraries for children to access and enjoy in their free time.”
A 2012 study by the Arab Thought Foundation noted that Arab children read an average of just six minutes in a year.
Marwa Al Aqroubi, the president of UAEBBY added: “Given this concern, we hope that our collective efforts instil a greater love for reading among the young in the UAE.”
