French-Algerian choreographer Heddy Maalem will be bringing the energetic and exaggerated movement of Krump to the UAE in a special dance production by Alliance Française Dubai on Thursday, February 9. Eloge du Puissant Royaume (Praise the Mighty Kingdom) will be staged by Maalem and five of his dancers from the Heddy Maalem Dance Company at Ductac. The former professional boxer discovered Krumping, a free and expressive style of dance a decade back. This growing style of hip-hop street dance originated in the African-American community of Los Angeles in the early 2000s. Male’s touring production adds a contemporary subtlety to the vigorous dance form, with spontaneous moments shared by the ensemble in the one-hour show. The movement is set to music pieces by Bach, Arvo Part, Savall, 2 Fingers, David Lynch and John Neff. • Eloge du Puissant Royaume will be staged at Ductac- Mall of the Emirates on February 9 from 8pm.
