A beautiful form of art, culture and expression, traditional henna has spawned several modern trends. We look at four ways to decorate your hands for this week’s Eid festivities.

Temporary white tattoos

This Eid, pioneering henna artist Sara Vazir is launching white henna in temporary-tattoo forms. Designs include rings, bracelets and other intricate patterns. They are waterproof and last up to seven days.

Body paint

A new line of face and body paint by Color Club New York has just been launched and is available in six colours, including metallic silver and gold. It can be applied like henna, on the hands and body, as well as on the face. Stick to one colour that matches your Eid outfit, or buy a few different colours for a festive, multicoloured look. The paint will stay on for up to seven days.

Metallic flash tattoos

While henna in its purest form is culturally rooted, it isn’t so pretty when it starts fading away, and some find the smell unpleasant. Flash tattoos, in standout silver and gold shades, are a great way to achieve Eid glamour in a more temporary manner. They’re available online and in stores around the UAE, and are easy to apply at home. Layer a few together and apply them creatively – think anklets and finger tattoos.

Graphic henna

While florals and paisleys are traditional henna motifs, contemporary trends include graphics that are bolder and edgy. They don’t fill the entire hand and instead focus on the wrist and fingers.
