Of all the celebrities out there, William Jonathan Drayton Jr seemed like the obvious choice for a restaurant endorsement. It's almost as though his Public Enemy stage name - Flavor Flav - had been created with a business eye on the fast food market.
Bizarrely then, it was only this January - with Kenny Rodgers already having conquered the world with his Roasters, and Gladys Knight flogging Chicken & Waffles in Atlanta - that Flav's Fried Chicken opened its doors, finally giving residents of Clinton, Iowa, the chance to sample Flavor's secret chicken wings recipe.
Just three months later, however, it's all gone sour and Flav's pulling out. What's to blame? A potato salad. After visiting the restaurant in early April he came across a serving of the aforementioned side-dish long past its sell-by date and, apparently, enough was enough.
"I found potato salad that expired on February 28," he told TMZ. "And it's then I realised I can't do business [there] and I really hope no one ate those potatoes."
As you might expect, the move hasn't particularly pleased his partner in the restaurant, Nick Cimino, who stood to receive 40 per cent of profits from the chain. He called Flav a "fraud" and claimed that it was he who had come up with the idea, which can't have really pushed the limits of imagination.
Thankfully, Flav isn't sitting around fretting about bad salads and wasting his name. Later this month sees the opening of Flavor Flav's House of Flavor in Las Vegas. All we need next is competition from Chuck D's Chucks.
