We speak with the N'Dulge's hip-hop DJ Masterstepz on spinning the decks on his birthday and why he moved to Dubai from UK.
On Friday you will be celebrating your birthday by DJing at No1 Fridays in N'Dulge. You like working on your birthday?
I don’t mind working on my birthday in a nightclub because of the atmosphere. No1 Fridays at N’dulge is a great place and I’m a resident there and this week to celebrate an old friend is in town, MC Kie, so together we are going to put on a show!
When did you first begin DJing? I first began to DJ many years ago. Before Serato, laptops, CD,s. It started from my school days.
You formerly lived in the UK. What brought you down to the UAE? I wanted to do something different in my life and I had been to Dubai a few times and liked the vibe. I always said that I would move to another country. It was between New York, Miami, Jamaica, and Dubai. Dubai won.
What is your take on the UAE's DJ scene? I'm excited to see so many different DJ cultures coming together as it adds a a lot of diversity to the club scene.
What kind of music should people expect from your sets? For people who haven't heard my set they can expect to be very entertained. Playing a mixture of house, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and dance-hall.
What songs do you play for yourself when you are at home? I like to play slow jams at home to chill out to and I like to go through my new music to keep me up to date with what's new.
What was the most outrageous track you spun on stage? Hmm, that's a hard. It has to be when I played in Holland for a massive festival with 13,000 people. It was a real house event. And I mixed in Jay Z's Big Pimping. This was in 2000 when it was unheard of to mix hip-hop at a house event.
DJ Masterstepz and MC Kie are playing on Friday night at N'Dulge, Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. 10.30pm - 3am. For Tables and reservations call 00971 55 200 4322
