Five designers to catch at India Fashion Week in Dubai

Shweta Wahi (6:30pm on Thursday): Worthy of a mention is up-and-coming talent Shweta Wahi. The 23-year-old Canadian-Indian designer will unveil her fall/winter collection at IFW and no doubt hold her own alongside India’s design stalwarts. Falguni and Shane Peacock (9:30pm on Friday): Fittingly the closing show of IFW goes to the talented design duo that is husband and wife team Falguni and Shane Peacock. The pair have dressed everyone from Lady Gaga and Rihanna to Olivia Munn, making waves with their sculptural gowns, luxurious fabrics, intricate embroidery and use of romantic fabrics. Ritu Beri (3pm show on Friday): Beri is the New-Delhi based fashion designer who became the first Asian to head the fashion brand Jean-Louis Scherrer. She launched her label in 1990 after mastering embroidery and presenting one of her first shows in the French capital. As well as designing, Beri is something of a wordsmith, having authored 101 Ways to Look Good and Firefly — A Fairytale. Archana Kochhar (8:30pm on Friday): Couturier Archana Kochhar, left, has been sending her creations down runways for more than a decade. Her style is characterised by classic Indian silhouettes and attention to handcraftsmanship, with her bridalwear in particular. Commonly held biannually in Delhi, the inaugural India Fashion Week (IFW) in Dubai aims to bring about 20 of India’s new and established designers together under one roof today and tomorrow at Dubai’s Emirates Towers. Celebrities confirmed to attend, and walk the catwalk, include the Hindi actress Bipasha Basu and her contemporary, Soha Ali Khan. While the event is strictly invite-only, the public are welcome to visit an exhibition space dedicated to the brands, in the foyer of Emirates Towers, over the weekend. Here are the key dates and designers.
