There hasn’t been a hotter time to see Ed Sheeran live, with the red-haired troubadour recently named the most-streamed artist of 2014.
This comes, of course, on-top of picking up another two Brit Awards (Best British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year – kind of the big ones), on February 25.
So it perhaps comes as little surprise that promoters are confident they could have sold out more than twice as many tickets for his Dubai debut this Thursday (March 5).
“We could have sold out The Sevens,” says Greg Dufton, managing partner of promoters Think Events and DGT Events. The Sevens Stadium is expected to welcome 32,500 One Direction fans on April 4.
“We offered him a second date [in Media City] but he has such a hectic schedule he couldn’t do it.”
All 11,000 tickets to the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre show sold out four weeks ago, and Sheeran’s appeal has only multiplied in the wake of the double-Brit win.
He arrives in Dubai following recent gigs to crowds of around 3,500 in Muscat and Qatar.
“I think Ed likes to do some big shows and some more intimate ones – 10,000 is intimate to him,” added Dufton.
“I saw him in Muscat and and he was absolutely phenomenal.”
On home turf Sheeran has already sold out a string of three July dates at London’s Wembley Stadium – which boasts a maximum capacity of 90,000.
Renowned for playing solo acoustic with just a loop pedal for support, 24-year-old Sheeran is believed to be the first solo performer to sell out so many tickets in a single run.
“The timing of this gig just could not have been better for Dubai,” added Dufton.
