Dubai’s long-standing live music hub The Music Room is hosting a tribute night to the recently departed Prince.
Taking place on Wednesday, May 4, the evening — titled Dearly Beloved — will see DJs spinning choice cuts from the Purple One’s extensive oeuvre, while the band will drop funk-flavoured hits by Prince and others.
Proceeds from the door and bar will be donated to “Prince’s charitable causes”.
Doors will open at the Bur Dubai venue from 6.30pm, with DJ’s James Locksmith and Rick Prior promising to dig deep into “the vaults of Prince’s catalogue of originals, rare finds, remixes and B-sides”. They will be joined by guest vocalist Simonne Cooper.
House band Evolvr will serve up a setlist of era-defining funk and rock tunes, sung by their charismatic pair of lead singers. “All bands will be fronted by female vocalists,” quipped organiser Locksmith, “just the way Prince would want it.”
He added: “Expect a journey through Prince’s music, inspirations, influences, those who he influenced, his proteges, material from the women he embraced and the lives he touched.”
The event is free before 10pm and Dh50 after, with door proceeds and a portion of the bar revenue donated to Dubai-based charity Autism Rocks — the same cause for which Prince performed an invite-only Dubai concert in aid of last year.
