Dubai International Film Festival reveals Arabian Nights programme

The Dubai International Film Festival has announced its Arabian Nights programme.

The series features films from the region's celebrated filmmakers in addition to foreign films focusing on the Arab world.

One of the entries is Mahmoud Kaabour's Champ of the Camp, the first ever documentary to be filmed in a UAE labour camp. The film follows the lives of labourers as they compete for a singing competition open to contestants from across 70 UAE camps.

Also screening is Exit Marrakech by Academy Award winner Caroline Link. The lavish tale follows an estranged father (played by prolific German star Ulrich Tukur)  as he attempts to reconnect with his son.

The Dubai Film Festival artistic director Masoud Amralla Al Ali says the Arabian Nights Programme aims to offer new perspectives on the Arab world.

“The films are a kaleidoscope of viewpoints, techniques and stories,” he states.

“We have a number of powerful documentaries, as well as unique narrative films which offer a fresh perspective on our region. The unifying thread throughout all films is a fresh, distinct take on the pressing issues facing the Arab world today.”

The Dubai Film Festival returns for its 10th edition from December 6 to 14. For details and schedules go to www.dubaifilmfest.com
