Drew Barrymore welcomes second baby girl
Drew Barrymore is now a mother of two. The 39-year-old actress and her 36-year-old husband, Will Kopelman, are welcoming their second daughter. Barrymore’s spokesperson, Chris Miller, confirms Frankie Barrymore Kopelman was born Tuesday. Barrymore and Kopelman’s first child, daughter Olive, is 19 months old. The couple say in a statement that “Olive has a new little sister, and everyone is healthy and happy!” Barrymore said earlier this month that becoming a parent is the greatest thing she’s ever done in her life. Barrymore’s latest film, out May 23, is the family friendly comedy Blended, which co-stars Adam Sandler. Her recent photo book, Find It in Everything, was dedicated to her daughter Olive. — AP
Harris channels Hedwig when audience acts unruly
Neil Patrick Harris knows that his character Hedwig speaks directly to the audience throughout his Broadway show, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. So he understands how things can sometimes get unruly. That’s because he feels the character’s energy transfers itself into a dialogue with the audience, and sometimes people respond by calling out his name or making some comment. Several times during previews, Harris has responded to fans calling out to him as “Neil”, and his replies are just what you’d expect from Hedwig, sometimes with sassy expletives. The 40-year-old star feels it’s his responsibility to make sure that the person knows that this isn’t the kind of show where the stars banter with the audience. The show opened on Tuesday on Broadway. — AP
Letterman gets visit from his successor
Stephen Colbert says on a visit to the late-night show he’ll take over next year he’s obviously “thrilled” to be succeeding David Letterman. The Comedy Central host told Letterman on CBS’ Late Show on Tuesday he’s going to do whatever Letterman has done. Letterman urges against it, saying: “You don’t want to do that.” Letterman is retiring next year. The Late Show released a 90-second clip of Colbert’s appearance, taped for broadcast on Tuesday night. — AP
Ellen DeGeneres making design series for HGTV
Ellen DeGeneres is making a furniture design competition series for the HGTV network. HGTV said on Tuesday that Ellen’s Design Challenge is expected to air sometime next year. It will feature six competitors who sketch, design and build furniture within 24 hours, and will play out over six episodes. Landing a series from a high-profile star is big news at the lifestyle cable network. DeGeneres is helping to produce the series; the network has not announced whether or not she will actually appear on it. — AP
