Doha Tribeca Film Festival 2012: Audience Awards

Being handed film festival gongs by panels of experts is all well and good, but surely the big prize is to win over the general public, isn’t it?

At the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, the audience awards were finally given out earlier today. In the feature section, the crowd voted for Full Circle, a Chinese comedy/drama about a group of senior citizens who – despite illness, lack of ability and a fair dose of senility – decide to enter a reality television contest. The documentary award went to the much hyped Searching For Sugar Man, a heartwarming and inspiration tale that explores the life of Rodriguez, the 1970s rock icon who never made it, faded into obscurity and, because of bootlegged copies, became a hit in South Africa. Congratulations to the films and thanks to the audience who voted for them. And to those who have just realised that they've still got the ticket stub and could have voted – you're too late.
