Rekha won’t go
The 62-year-old Indian actress Bhanurekha Ganesan, better known by her stage name of Rekha, was not about to give up the microphone while accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) on Wednesday night. “I know this is not the Oscars, there is no music going to play,” she said, before stepping back to the microphone to dedicate her award to the “next generation of beautiful, wonderful talent”.
Jackson wants UAE Role
Samuel L Jackson has a movie lined up in India next year and he would like one in the UAE, too. The veteran American actor thrilled the opening night Diff crowd, who stood to applaud him as he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. “I’ve already campaigned to come back and work in this country, so if anyone can help a brother out,” he said. Jackson went on to praise his wife of 36 years, LaTanya Richardson. “She’s still keeping my feet on the ground,” he said.
Lacy hits Dubai
Jake Lacy muscled up for his role opposite Jessica Chastain in the Diff opener Miss Sloane. “He’s incredible in this movie,” said director John Madden in Dubai on Wednesday night, with Lacy at his side. The 30-year-old actor is on a roll, after 2014’s indie Obvious Child, last year’s drama Carol and HBO’s Girls. After shooting a video of the post-film party, he revealed that his first visit to Dubai would be short. “I leave Friday,” he said.
