Argentinian director Damián Szifrón is one of the hottest names in world cinema right now. Since premièring at Cannes in May, his film Wild Tales has played to rapturous audiences at nearly 30 festivals around the globe, including heavy-hitters Toronto, San Sebastian and London.
Selected as his home nation’s official entry to the Oscars for 2015, the hilarious black comedy is already attracting significant awards season buzz.
But the director is anything but jaded by his seven-month festival tour promoting the movie, talking about Dubai with a childish excitement when introducing his film’s regional premiere at Diff.
“Being in Dubai is like being in a science fiction film,” he said at the gala screening on Monday, December 15.
“Arriving here you feel you have arrived on another planet. everything here is amazing.
“There’s so much to see in this city – I’m amazed you’re going to pay any attention to a cinema for two hours.”
• Wild Tales screens again at Diff on Wednesday, December 17 at 6.30pm at Mall of the Emirates
