Crocodile Gucci handbag: two pieces, Dh134,700 each

The Dionysus handbag is an important element in Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s portfolio and was part of his first-ever collection for the brand – autumn/winter 2015.

The top-handle bag is defined by a striking double tiger-head clasp, which is a reference to the Greek god Dionysus. According to myth, Dionysus transformed himself into a tiger in order to carry a young nymph across a river – which has since come to be known as the river Tigris.

The bag is made in a number of versions and in a variety of materials, from suede to python. It also comes covered in the distinctive GG Supreme print, which is a contemporary take on the Gucci G motif. Yet another model features a hand- embroidered bee, created using thin strips of brass wrapped in silk thread.

This version is made from crocodile leather, which accounts for its price point. The leather is dyed in three different colours – blue, green and red – and the pieces are stitched together by hand.

Other distinctive features include a structured shape, elegant bamboo handle, antique-toned gold hardware and adjustable shoulder strap.

The limited-edition crocodile Dionysus is exclusive to the Middle East, with only two pieces available.
