Country star Taylor Swift is highest paid celebrity under 30

1. Swift tops young rich list

Female singers dominated the top of Forbes's list of the highest-paid celebrities under the age of 30, released on Thursday, starting with country pop sensation Taylor Swift, who earned US$57 million (Dh209m) in the 12 months ending in May. Justin Bieber, the only male in the top five, placed second at $55m, followed by Rihanna ($53m), Lady Gaga ($52m) and Katy Perry ($45m). Last year, Gaga topped the list at $90m. - AP

2. Farrell on remake mode in Recall

Colin Farrell doesn't think he's supplanting Arnold Schwarzenegger in the remake of Total Recall, out next month, saying his version of the 1990 sci-fi thriller has a different style and tone. "I didn't feel the need to fill those size 16 shoes or 18 shoes or whatever foot size Arnie has. I made it my own," Farrell said at last week's San Diego Comic-Con. "I did think about messing around with an Austrian accent for about seven minutes." - AP

3. Ben Whishaw to play Q in Skyfall

In the forthcoming Bond film Skyfall, the British actor Ben Whishaw will play the role of the high-tech trickery expert Q, made famous by the late Desmond Llewellyn in 17 Bond films. Q was absent from Daniel Craig's first two Bond films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall is due for release in October and co-stars Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes. - AP

4. Russell Crowe to star as Dracula

Russell Crowe has signed on to star as Dracula in the forthcoming thriller Harker, a reimagining of Bram Stoker's Dracula, to be co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, reports Deadline. The actor and filmmaker Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds, Hostel) is in talks to direct the project. Crowe and Roth recently worked together in the martial arts film The Man with the Iron Fists, scheduled for release in November.

5. Kelsey Grammer announces birth of daughter

Kelsey Grammer and his wife Kayte say they are thrilled at the arrival of their first child together, Faith Evangeline Elisa, born on Friday. In a statement, the couple announced that although they had been expecting twins, Kayte, 31, suffered a miscarriage several months ago. They said they plan to have more children together. The couple married in February last year. - AP
