Two Muslim rappers have created a social media stir with their own video remix of a popular T.I track.
American MC's Shaheed Yasir and Krave Khaleel flipped T.I's 2006 hit What You Know on its head and transformed it into an energetic ode to attending the Friday prayers.
Shot in one take in a car in snowy Connecticut, both rappers showcased their tight flow as they waxed lyrical about the importance "looking fresh" and "filling them ranks" at your local mosque on Fridays.
Since Yasir uploaded the video on his private Facebook page on February 20, the track has been viewed over 16,000 times,
Speaking to The National, Yasir said the collaboration with fellow local artist Khaleel came as a result of both aspiring rappers hoping to create music that's both potent and wholesome.
"Jumuah Mubarak is definitely something to help reach our youth," he says.
"I want to show them that we can make better quality music in a halal fashion."
Yasir hopes the track can also inspire fellow Musilm musicians. He laments the fact that many Muslim creatives ditch their talent because of the controversial notion that all music is contrary to the faith.
"What makes the music haram is the content," he says.
"I want to encourage kids to listen and also create their own music if they have this talent. What corrupts the faith from a music standpoint is when you try to mix haram with halal. Keep it a 100 per cent halal and Allah will be pleased with you. I also hope this music reach the non Muslims as well."
For more information go to Shaheed Yasir's Facebook page.
