He's one of the most iconic character from the big screen - the man who put eating a man's liver with some fava beans and a glass of Chianti on the map. And now he's due for a televisual revival. Having been portrayed so memorably by Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon) and perhaps less memorably by Gaspard Ulliel (Red Dragon), the valuable movie asset that is Hannibal Lector is now being put in the hands of Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen for the upcoming NBC TV series. Hannibal, which will be a 13-part series based on the Lambs' prequel, Red Dragon, will follow the relationship between Mikkelsen's psychiatrist-turned-murderous-eater-of-men Lector and FBI criminal profiler Will Graham, to be played by Hugh Dancy. Mikkelsen, who played such a splendidly evil looking Bond baddie in Casino Royale as Le Chiffre, recently picked up the Best Actor award in Cannes for The Hunt. He also starred in Danish costume drama A Royal Affair, which is definitely worth watching (not be put off by the 'costume drama' bit), and is due to appear - interestingly alongside Anthony Hopkins - as a baddie in Thor 2. Perhaps the Hopster can give him some man-eating tips...
