English artist Tracey Emin's art installation My Bed, a creation to depict her troubled relationship phase, sold for more than Dh16 million ($4.4 million) at a Christie's auction held in Central London this week.
The art work, created in the artist’s Waterloo Council flat in 1998, comes with dishevelled sheets, empty vodka bottles and cigarette butts, all intact.
The work was sold by the collector Charles Saatchi, a supporter of Emin and other modern British artists.
Francis Outred, the head of contemporary art at Christie’s auction house, did not identify the buyer but said it was bought by an institution and that it would end up “somewhere important”. – AP
