A new trailer for the adaptation of Paul Torday's novel about, well, salmon fishing in, er, Yemen, has just been released and it's great to see Amr Waked getting some significant screen time. The Egyptian actor plays a Yemeni sheikh who tries to bring, er, salmon fishing, to the wadis in his country's highlands, and stars alongside Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt. And as the trailer reveals, Amr gets a decent slice of the action (well, kind of action). Wakd, who has been a regular at regional film festivals over the past couple of months, made headlines earlier in the year when he spearheaded a boycott of the film 18 Days , a selection of shorts based around the Egyptian revolution, claiming that pro-Mubarak directors had been involved. "Those who supported the regime have no right to be the first to make a film about the revolution," Waked told a forum at the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival discussing the Arab Spring and cinema. Hopefully, Salmon Fishing will herald a flurry of future film appearance for Waked, who also starred in Contagion and Syriana . Egyptian acting icon Gamil Rateb cited Amr as an example of prominent Egyptian talent when collecting his lifetime achievement award at the Dubai International Film Festival two weeks ago.
