Celebrities from the worlds of music, comedy, showbiz and sports have come together for one common goal: competing in a live-streamed game of Fifa 19. Singer Robbie Williams, former English footballer Peter Crouch, Olympian Sir Mo Farah, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and English team captain Harry Kane were among a host of well-known figures who came together for an event in London, hosted by Amazon, to celebrate Prime Day 2019. Held at the Gfinity arena in London, the celebrities quickly learnt friend from foe when they were split into four teams, each with four members, and at least one member being an online gamer who, helpfully, specialised in playing Fifa. Two members of separate teams then went head-to-head, while the other two waited for the controller. The whole event was live streamed on Twitch, a live streaming platform owned by Amazon, so fans could watch on from home. The teams were divided as such: Henry's team had women's football player Alex Scott, Williams, and professional gamer CapgunTom. Internet personality Maya Jama's team consisted of: Kane, Minnesota Timberwolves basketball player Karl-Anthony Towns, and professional gamer BuckArmy. The third team was lead by former Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand and included comedian Iain Stirling, television presenter Laura Whitmore, and professional game streamer Bateson87. The final team was led by Brazilian skateboarder Leticia Bufoni, and included Farah, Crouch, and professional game streamer Pieface23. And so, the banter ensued. Kane had a few swipes at fellow footballers Henry and Scott, as did Ferdinand with Bateson87, who just so happens to be a Liverpool fan. At one point, Bateson87 said he would not mind switching team allegiances. After coming back from a break, Bateson and Ferdinad said they patched things up, and that Bateson offered him "memorabilia to sign and sell on eBay." A captive audience, made up of mostly gamers and twitch live streamers, watched on. At one point, Bufoni, who is supposed to be the captain of her team, got up and left in the middle of her team's first match, leaving her team to finish the tournament without her. It wasn't clear what led the skateboarder to abandon the tournament. In the end, Ferdinand's team was triumphant, with Stirling, Whitmore, and Bateson87 taking home the Twitch Prime Crown Cup. A second Twitch Prime Crown Cup took place in Las Vegas after the end of London's event, but the celebrities were instead charged with playing each other at the shooting game Apex Legends. The events were held to celebrate Amazon's Prime Day, which will include the UAE for the first time this year. Amazon's two-day mega sale will run from July 15 to 16.
