On The Do-Over
It started in 2005 in Hollywood California. It has expanded to Manilla, Tokyo, Milan, London, Berlin, New York, Miami, Auckland and a few more that I am missing. The concept was a day time party where people can listen to good music and hang out with like minded people who enjoy a variety of different styles and open to exploring new sounds and ideas from the DJ. We don't tell the DJ's what to play. They play whatever they want and ultimately the people in the party can get to enjoy the DJ's favorite songs. I consider the DJs as the best tastemakers as they have an ear spanning many different decades and genres. So they will really be getting the best. On keeping the DJ lineup a secret
If people are coming to the party to have a good time regardless, then there is no worry about who is the DJ and there is excitement to discover a new DJ and maybe even new music. On his role as the party host
I try not to disturb the DJ's groove so my goal is to enhance the music with a little bit of singing or rapping and greeting the folks who come in. I try to go along with the music and not talk over the DJ's art or in a way to disturb the vibe. On bringing the Do-Over to the UAE
I am interested to see how our DJs will keep the interest of such an international audience. I think largely there is a lot of music from North America in the Do-Over, but in the UAE with so many different cultures our DJs will do some homework and throw some surprises from places familiar to some of the audience. We had a DJ called Egon who frequented the Do-Over who would play Turkish funk and other DJs played music from the Caribbean. There is a lot of variety but I am really interested in how they will approach the UAE. doing. The Do-Over will be held at Dubai XL Beach Club on Friday April 27 and Abu Dhabi's Le Royal Meridien on Saturday April 28.
