Most of us are familiar with plans for the carbon-neutral Masdar City, but did you know that later this year Shams 1 Concentrated Solar Power plant – the largest in the world – will start harnessing energy and supplying the capital with 100 megawatts of solar power? Or that in August, the region’s first rapid electric vehicle charging station became operational in Masdar City, meaning that a car battery can be 80 per cent charged in just 30 minutes (as opposed to the six hours it would take using a standard electrical outlet)?
