Aamir Khan’s PK shines at the Star Guild Awards

The filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's film won Best Film, Best Director, Best Dialogue, Best Sound Mixing and a special award for earning more than 100 crore rupees (Dh592 million).

Rajkumar Hirani's PK was the big winner at the Star Guild Awards in Mumbai's Film City on Sunday night. The movie, which stars Aamir Khan as an alien stranded on Earth, won Best Film, Best Director, Best Dialogue, Best Sound Mixing and a special award for grossing more than 100 crore rupees (Dh592 million).

The Best Actor award went to Shahid Kapoor for his performance in Haider, while Priyanka Chopra was named best actress for her role in Mary Kom. She also received the Celebrity for a Cause award.

Deepika Padukone was named Entertainer of the Year. The Shining Superstar award went to Shraddha Kapoor.

The host of the ceremony was the comedian Kapil Sharma, who delivered a stream of witty one-liners and gags throughout the evening.

Chopra kicked off the night with a dance sequence set to the songs Asalaam E Ishqum and Ram Chahe Leela Chahe, while Amitabh Bachchan performed a song from his upcoming movie Shamitabh.

Alia Bhatt, who won the Most Stylish Youth Icon award, also performed, dancing to Phataaka Gudi and Radha on the Dance Floor.

Bachchan returned to the stage to pay tribute to the late filmmaker Ravi Chopra, who died in November last year.

Other actors who entertained the audience included Jacqueline Fernandes and Kapoor.

Rakesh Roshan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award, which was presented to him by his son, Hrithik Roshan, and veteran actor Jeetendra.

The Renault Star Guild Awards 2015 will be broadcast in the UAE on January 18 on Star Plus.
