Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover are set to star in a new Amazon Prime Video series based on the 2005 film, Mr and Mrs Smith. The original featured Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as the eponymous couple, who happen to be assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other. Both Waller-Bridge, 35, and Glover, 37, are TV regulars. The British actress is best known for her turn as Fleabag in the series of the same name, which she wrote, starred in and produced. Glover made a name for himself in offbeat comedy Community, before going on to create Atlanta. He is also a musician under the stage name Childish Gambino and starred in the 2016 live-action remake of The Lion King as Simba. The pair have worked together on 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. They will both executive produce the series. The announcement was made on Friday on Glover's Instagram stories. Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke then posted the informal announcement clip of Glover dancing and Waller-Bridge posing to her Instagram. "Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It's truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team," Salke said. "Mr and Mrs Smith is an iconic property, and we can't wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We're thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency." The show will be co-created with Francesca Sloane and is expected to broadcast in 2022.
In the past, Sloane has worked on TV series Fargo and The First.
