Indian web series 'Little Things' goes global with Netflix

Season 2 of the YouTube hit launches on streaming giant this weekend

Smash hit, fly-on-the-wall, Indian YouTube drama Little Things is set to go global this weekend, when season two of the show releases to a global audience of over 100 million Netflix subscribers on October 5.

The show stars Dhruv Sehgal, who also writes, and Mithila Palkar as hip urban couple Dhruv and Kavya, aired its first season from September 2017 as five 15-minute episodes. Episode one has picked up over 10 million views on producer Dice Media’s YouTube Channel, which would certainly go some way to explaining why global giant Netflix took an interest in picking up season 2 for worldwide distribution.

The show follows the everyday trials and tribulations of a young, Indian couple as they negotiate their way through life. Rather than aiming for kitchen sink melodrama, the show focuses on, as the name implies, the little things that affect the lives of a typical couple.

As Palkar explained to Indian Express recently: "Our show is about little things, it's not dramatic. There's no deliberate conflict in it. We have not gone out of our way to make it more dramatic. It is about trying to find fun in the mundane."

With its mix of comedy, drama, and every day drudgery, the show has already captured the imagination of internet audiences in India and beyond through its debut outing on YouTube. With the higher production values, marketing budgets, and captive audience base offered by the switch to Netflix, it remains to be seen how much further the show can make an impression in living rooms across the globe.

Season 2 will bring eight 30-minute episodes to Netflix, with the option to extend for further series in future. The show streams from Friday, October 5.
