From Mohamed Henedy to Nelly Karim: five Egyptian star-studded radio series to be broadcast this Ramadan

From a romance set in 2051 to a drama about theatre, here are some top shows coming soon

Ramadan dramas this year are not only limited to the small screen, as a host of stars are lending their talents to radio serials that will be broadcast throughout the holy month across Egypt.

Some of the big names involved include Egyptian comic Mohamed Henedy, actress, model and ballerina Nelly Karim, and actor Chico.

While release dates and times are yet to be revealed, we examine some of the best shows listeners can expect.

1. ‘Hizam Nashif' (Radio One)

As well as his physicality, Henedy's zany voice is also central to his comic appeal.

The funnyman leads the cast of Hizam Nashif, in which he plays a husband stuck in a dour marriage. As more setbacks ensue, the more the couple quarrel, until fate intervenes and their fortunes change.

2. ‘Jamal Kazoza’ (El Radio 9090 FM)

Starring comedian, actor and writer Ahmed Amin, this series is set in the inspiring and contentious world of theatre.

After years of success, the partnership of playwright Jamal Darwish and actor Ashraf Ali is threatened by ego and greed. Challenged by their mutual friend, Ashraf decides to go out on his own and write and direct his own play. Will he pull it off?

3. ‘A’shaan Big Million’ (NRJ Egypt)

Karim and Asser Yassin star in this romantic drama following a son from a prominent family who eventually falls in love with someone from the wrong side of the social ladder.

4. ‘Coco Wawa’ (El Radio 9090 FM)

Recorded in surround sound, the family-themed show revolves around a relationship between Coco and Wawa, a cat and dog on the streets of Cairo.

In addition to their frequent squabbles, they provide interesting insights on the big city from a feline and canine perspective.

The series stars Chico, Hisham Maged and Mirna Jamil.

5. 'Rihaliti Min Al Shek Libatleem' (NRJ Egypt)

This series offers a futuristic look on marital bliss. Hanady Mehanna and Ahmed Khaled Saleh star as a newlywed couple and we follow their first 12 months of marriage in the year 2051.
