Community theatre group to stage exclusive show for blue-collar workers in Dubai

As part of the UAE's "Year of Giving" initiative, the newly formed home-grown South Asian community theatre group, Goonj Productions, is organising a free matinée performance of its popular Urdu production Miam, Biwi Aur Wagah.

The play focuses on the lost tradition of letter-writing and how modern technology can never replace the same feeling one gets with a letter.

The group is set to perform for 160 labourers and domestic helpers on Friday, October 13, at 2.30pm. Throughout the show workers will be treated as special guests of honour and will be treated to lunch and refreshments.

“Whether they are working in our homes as domestic help or building beautiful buildings across the country, taxi drivers, waiters, and waitresses, this show is for all these wonderful people," says Amna Khaishgi, writer and producer of the play. "It is an honest appreciation and recognition of their efforts and contribution to the society."

The team is also encouraging people through their social media page to gift a seat at the play to any blue-collar worker they employee that they think could do with a day of leisure and quality entertainment.

The matinee show will be followed by the play's regular ticketed shows on October 13 and 14 from 7.30pm at The Junction, Alserkal Avenue. Tickets cost Dh100 and can be bought from dubai.platinumlist.net or purchased at the door (cash only).
