American comedian Brody Stevens dies aged 48

Reports state he died in an apparent suicide

Comedian Steven Brody, who was better known as Brody Stevens, has died, aged 48, at his home in Los Angeles.

The death had been reported as a suicide, although this has yet to be officially confirmed and is pending further examination by the coroner's office.

The stand-up comedian and actor starred in the Comedy Central reality TV series Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! and was known for his appearances in shows such as Chelsea Lately, plus bit parts in films including The Hangover and Due Date.

Stevens regularly appeared on-stage throughout LA comedy clubs, including at the Comedy Store, which paid tribute to the comic on Instagram.

"Thank you Brody for sharing your comedy and positive energy with us for so many years," they wrote. "You made late nights so much fun, pushing boundaries, being different, and never doing the same show twice. It was a privilege to watch you.

"You never catered to people who didn't get it. You were one of a kind."

Scott Aukerman, host of Comedy Bang! Bang! TV show, wrote: "Brody was always the funniest guy in the room."

Actor and comedian Patton Oswalt sent a plea on Twitter to other people who may be struggling with mental health issues. "If you are depressed or feeling suicidal please please please please please reach out to ANYONE," he wrote.

"I never get to see Brody Stevens again I can't stand this."
