With social-distancing measures closing clubs around the globe, party lovers in Germany have joined forces to host the world’s first drive-in rave. Hundreds of cars have been gathering in the car park of Club Index in the town of Schuettorf, near the Dutch border, with DJs taking to a makeshift stage and playing sets into the early hours. A maximum of 250 cars are allowed to attend, with two people in each. After the success of the first event, headlined by DJ Devin Wild, more “Autodiscos” have been planned. At the first, people danced in their cars, with strobe lights and fire coming from the stage and mascots dancing at the front. Motorists joined in the fun by honking their horns and flashing their headlights. It is the latest in a series of drive-in events to take place while quarantine measures are being observed. Last week, Danish musician Mads Langer played a sold-out gig to 500 people in cars on the outskirts of Aarhus, all tuned in through their FM car stereos. And drive-in cinemas have been making a comeback around the world.
