Following in the footsteps of The Beatles, The Monkees, Johnny Cash and even The Spice Girls, it looks like the erstwhile Britpop act, Oasis, may be heading for the big screen. Liam Gallagher, the perpetually grim-faced front man, has announced plans to make a movie or write a book based on the tumultuous life of the band, which finally split earlier this year. During an interview for the website of his clothing line, Pretty Green, Gallagher spoke of his desire to get the project off the ground very soon, while his memories were still intact.
Since getting their big break in 1993, after being spotted playing a gig at Glasgow's legendary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Oasis went on to sell more than 34 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most popular British music acts in history. But despite the Britpop outfit's continued success, the band members' love of fighting has become almost as famous as the music itself. Fronted by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher since 1991, the fraught relationship between the two siblings should provide more than enough material for any future novel or movie.
The band, who have gone through more than 10 line-up changes since first coming together, finally lost the founding member and lead songwriter, Noel, late last summer after yet another bust-up. Noel, who had previously "quit" Oasis on several other occasions after fighting with his younger brother, walked out on the band minutes before their appearance at a Paris festival, Rock en Seine, causing the band to cancel the show and a subsequent European tour.
Liam is now working with a new incarnation of the band, called Beady Eye, but it looks like Oasis won't be fading from memory any time soon.
