Carole Samaha’s new music shoot temporarily halted by French police

The Lebanese singer was shooting a particularly dramatic when local authorities intervened

Carole Samaha caused a stir with her new song in Paris.

The production for her upcoming music video Mish Ha'eish (I Wont Live) was temporarily halted after locals, spotting the Lebanese singer's back hanging precariously over an apartment balcony of a high rise, called the police.

Fearing a suicide attempt, police rushed to the scene and shut down the production while they made enquiries.

Samaha detailed her experience on her social media and put the whole experience down to a misunderstanding.

"From France, shooting a dramatic scene for my new song Mish Ha'eish, which caused a big misunderstanding in the streets of Paris where people thought I was trying to commit suicide," she said.

“The French police entered the apartment to investigate. We assured them that the issue is nothing but a scene for a new music clip.”

Samaha is no stranger to dramatic visuals. Last year she caused controversy in the Arab world for the song Al Moutallaka (The Divorced) and its accompanying video. Shot in black and white, it has Samaha staring at the ocean from her abandoned home, while the song's spoken word delivery examines the personal and societal effects divorce has on Arab woman.

"I am not of the view that an artist should always sing about the things that are happening in their lives," Samaha said a recent interview with The National.

“By me singing about things that don’t relate directly to me at present, but which affects many people that we know, is really about me showing empathy for others.”
