Bollywood style has had plenty of wonderful hits through the years, but the misses are equally spectacular. Here are the top 5 fashion faux pas.

Bhagyashree, Maine Pyar Kiya
In Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one-hit wonder Bhagyashree wore a rather prim white shalwar kameez with a dowdy leaf print for the song sequence Kabootar Ja. It was an odd choice for a song about yearning, secret letters and first love. Any look that is accessorised with a pilot's hat emblazoned with the word "Friend" is doomed to fail.

Rani Mukerji, Bichoo
If anyone remembers the Rani Mukerji and Bobby Deol film Bichhoo (2000), it is probably because of Mukerji's outfits - ill- fitting leather jackets and too-tight mini skirts that were meant to drive home the point that she was portraying a "bad girl". Or should that be "bad girl with terrible taste"?

Karisma Kapoor, Prem Qaidi
Kapoor spent her early career flaunting bushy eyebrows, big, frizzy hair, pearlescent make-up and outfits in mismatched colours, but nowhere was her lack of fashion sense more apparent than in the romantic drama Prem Qaidi (1991) - she broke every rule in the stylebook with disastrous results.

Shilpa Shetty, Baazigar
Now an elegant A-lister, Shilpa Shetty was practically unrecognisable in her first film, Baazigar (1993), when her lips were unfilled with silicon and she hadn't yet visited a rhinoplasty surgeon. As for her outfits, Shetty tried them all - embellished jackets, ugly paste jewellery and ill-fitting clothes - and the audience breathed a sigh of relief when she was killed off halfway through the film. Meanwhile, her co-star Kajol managed to look like a million dollars.

Vidya Balan, Ghanchakkar
Vidya Balan is the queen of the fashion faux pas - but really took the cake with her 1970s-inspired outfits in the black comedy Ghanchakkar (2013): polka dots, big and bright granny florals, huge earrings and oversized sunglasses - completely cringeworthy.
