Gold Meets Golden: Rami Malek, Nicole Kidman and more mingle at pre-Globes gala

Hollywood's elite and the world's best athletes came together to raise awareness for spots-related causes

The awards season for 2020 is officially in full swing, with the Golden Globes taking place in California on Sunday night.

However, ahead of the star-studded ceremony, some of Hollywood's most famous names attended a pre-awards brunch with a sporty twist.

The annual Gold Meets Golden events brings together stars of the screen with some of the sporting world's best athletes, in a bid to raise awareness and support for charitable causes.

This year's brunch, held on Saturday, January 4, brought together the likes of Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and American-Egyptian actor Rami Malek at the Virginia Robinson Gardens and Estate in Los Angeles.

Gold Meets Golden works with LA's Angel City Sports, a California organisation that provides coaching, equipment and training for aspiring paralympians.

Among the sportspeople at this year's brunch were Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe, American softballer  Monica Abbott and fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad.
