Singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan is billed to star in the Father of the Bride remake opposite Andy Garcia. The Cuban-American Conga singer announced the news in an Instagram post, writing: "A resounding yes was my answer to the invitation to join my good friend, the incredibly talented Andy Garcia, for this new and wonderfully warm and funny incarnation of the classic, Father of The Bride!" The remake, directed by Mexican filmmaker Gary Alazraki, will tell the story of a father coming to grips with his daughter's wedding, unpacking several relationships within a large Cuban-American family. Good Omens actress Adria Arjona is set to play the bride-to-be, with Garcia and Estefan starring as the bride's parents. The film is the latest in a franchise that began with 1950's Father of the Bride starring Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracey. Diane Keaton and Steve Martin then appeared together in the 1991 remake. According to Deadline, Warner Bros executives weren't sure if Estefan would be interested in the project. What convinced her to come on board was Race to Witch Mountain's Matt Lopez's script as well as Alazraki's and Garcia's involvement. Father of the Bride will mark the third time Estefan has acted in a film. Her debut came in 1999 when she acted alongside Meryl Streep in the musical Music of the Heart. More recently, she starred with Jim Belushi and William Levy in the 2017 comedy A Change of Heart. While Estefan on screen less than a handful of times, her music has been a Hollywood favourite. She's been featured in dozens of films and TV shows, including Original Sin, Glee and Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
