Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has had surgery and is “out of danger” after he was stabbed during an attempted burglary at his Mumbai home early on Thursday.
Khan sustained multiple knife wounds, including one near his spine, and is being monitored at a local hospital. His sister Saba Ali Khan said the 54-year-old had “come out of surgery and is out of danger”.
Sharing an update on her Instagram Stories from his team, she added: “He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police [are] investigating the incident. We would like to thank Dr Niraj Uttamani, Dr Nitin Dange, Dr Leena Jain and the team at Lilavati hospital.”
Mumbai police said it appeared the attacker was related to a domestic worker, who let him into the house. The domestic help is being questioned by police.

While Khan's injuries appear to be minor, the police have launched a full investigation. “The actor and the intruder had a scuffle,” said Dixit Gedam, deputy commissioner of police. “The investigation is continuing.”
“Saif Ali Khan was brought to Lilavati Hospital at 3.30am with six injuries, two of which are deep,” said Niraj Uttamani, chief executive of Lilavati Hospital. “One of the injuries is near his spine.” He said the surgery was led by a team including neurosurgeon Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Leena Jain, and anaesthetist Nisha Gandhi.

Khan is married to actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, with whom he has two sons, Taimur and Jeh. He also has two children, Sara and Ibrahim, from his previous marriage to actress Amrita Singh.
Earlier, Kapoor Khan's team issued a statement, saying: “Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in hospital undergoing a procedure. The rest of the family is fine. We request fans and the media … avoid speculation as the police conduct their investigation. Thank you for your concern.”
Khan was last on screens in Devara Part 1, an action drama released in September that co-starred NTR Jr and Janhvi Kapoor. He is also set to appear in Jewel Thief – The Red Sun Chapter, a crime thriller directed by Robbie Grewal.
