The Second World War veteran, who found a place in the hearts of the British public after raising millions of pounds for health service workers, was hospitalised with <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/coronavirus">Covid-19</a> this week, but died on Tuesday. To announce his death, his family simply tweeted: "Captain Sir Tom Moore 1920-2021." Following on from the <a href="https://www.thenationalnews.com/world/europe/tributes-pour-in-for-lockdown-hero-capt-sir-tom-moore-1.1158462">tributes paid by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II </a>and a number of politicians, Britain's celebrities have also been remembering "a truly remarkable man" on social media. <em>Good Morning Britain</em> presenter Piers Morgan wrote: "A magnificent man. A national hero. In our darkest hour since WW2, he rallied." Morgan has also announced that the Wednesday episode of <em>Good Morning Britain</em> "is dedicated to Captain Sir Tom Moore. The man who put the great into Great Britain and reminded us all of the power of courage, resilience, positivity, determination and a will to succeed against all the odds". Footballer and activist Marcus Rashford wrote: "You have inspired generation after generation with your kindness, your perseverance and your strength. You fought for others until the very end. A role model to so many at a time of such difficulty, your legacy will live on for years to come. Thank you for being a shining light of 2020. Rest in peace Captain Sir Tom. My thoughts are very much with your loved ones." <em>The Hunger Games </em>actor Sam Claflin paid tribute to "an incredible man", writing: "An inspiration to us all, in some of the darkest of days. Thank you for paving the way kind sir. You will be missed." One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson wrote: "A truly remarkable man whose message lives on as inspiration for us all to do more whatever our situation." British TV presenters Ant and Dec tweeted: "Captain Sir Tom Moore. What a hero. You were a shining beacon of hope and an inspiration to us all when we needed it most. We thank you and salute you. Rest in peace Sir." <em>Countdown</em> lexicographer Susie Dent used her way with words to help people mourning the beloved veteran describe their emotions, summing them up as "sorrow-struck". TV and radio presenter Amanda Holden said: "Goodbye to this absolute joy of a man," describing him as "a national hero who brought us all together and shone so much light in such a dark time". She added: "My love goes out to his wonderful family [heart emoji] how proud they must be of the enormous legacy he has left behind." <em>Inbetweeners</em> actress Emily Atack also paid tribute, writing: "Sir Captain Tom Moore. What a man, what a story. The hero that brought us hope and joy when we needed it most.
